Overview of Morillon

Morillon is characterised by an architecture that respects the local environment and traditions. In the village, old farms and timber chalets sit alongside more recent constructions inspired by Savoyard style. The church of Saint-Christophe, with its onion-domed bell tower, is a landmark. Higher up, at Morillon 1100 (Les Esserts), the resort has developed in an integrated way on the plateau, with residences and chalets designed to blend into the wooded setting, offering direct access to the slopes. The Lac Bleu, situated near the village, is an emblematic site — the true heart of summer activities with its beach and facilities. The overall impression is welcoming and well-preserved.

Morillon in summer

In summer, Morillon is a family destination par excellence, centred around its Lac Bleu leisure base. This purpose-built lake offers supervised swimming, a sandy beach, inflatable water toys (Le Splash), kayaking, paddleboarding and picnic areas. The surroundings are well suited to walking for all levels, with routes through high pastures and forests, and the Sixt-Passy Nature Reserve nearby. Mountain biking is also well represented with marked routes and a Family Challenge. Tree-top adventure courses, horse riding, rafting and summer entertainment complete a rich offering for active or contemplative holidays in a preserved natural setting.

Morillon in winter

In winter, Morillon is a privileged gateway to the Grand Massif ski area (265 km of runs). The resort is particularly well suited to families, with gentle and fun runs such as the famous 7 km green Marvel piste winding through the forest. The Morillon sector offers pleasant skiing in the heart of a welcoming natural environment. Beyond alpine skiing, the Giffre valley offers a fine Nordic skiing area. Activities such as snowshoeing, ski joëring, dog sledding and tobogganing are also available, allowing visitors to enjoy the snow in a convivial and authentic atmosphere.

The Grand Massif is one of the largest linked ski areas in France, offering an immense 265 km of runs served by over 60 ski lifts. It connects five resorts with distinct characters: the modern and high-altitude Flaine, the family villages of Les Carroz d’Araches and Morillon, the authentic Samoens and the preserved Sixt-Fer-a-Cheval. Extending from 700 to 2,500 metres altitude, the ski area benefits from excellent snowfall, favoured by a predominantly north-facing aspect (80% of runs). It is also renowned for its exceptional panoramas, particularly the unbeatable view of Mont Blanc from the Flaine summits. The strength of the Grand Massif lies in the diversity of its sectors: Flaine is the highest point, offering wide blue runs, technical sectors and well-regarded freeride zones such as Corbalanche. Morillon and Les Carroz particularly appeal to families and progressing skiers, with forest runs like the long green Marvel run at Morillon and numerous fun areas. Samoens, linked via the Saix plateau (1,600 m) which serves as a hub, offers quick access to the entire ski area from a traditional village. The ski area’s iconic experience is the Cascades run — a 14 km blue run allowing a memorable descent from the summit of Flaine to the village of Sixt-Fer-a-Cheval through a magnificent nature reserve setting. Note that while this descent is ski-in ski-out, the return from Sixt to the rest of the Grand Massif is by shuttle.
