Overview of Le Mont-Dore
The Mont-Dore resort is organised around its historic town (1,050 m), famous for its thermal baths — a listed historic monument — and its Belle Epoque architecture. It is a lively year-round village with shops, a casino, an ice rink and its century-old funicular. But the particular identity of Le Mont-Dore lies above all in the black volcanic rock used in its architecture, giving it a unique character. The ski area is located on the north face of the Puy de Sancy, a few minutes from the town centre (accessed by road or shuttle). Ranging from 1,200 to 1,840 metres, it offers characterful skiing in a setting of valleys, steep slopes and panoramic views. It is a varied playground particularly appreciated by experienced skiers for its technical runs and numerous freeride possibilities. When conditions allow, a ridge link opens to the neighbouring Super-Besse resort, forming the Grand Domaine du Sancy — the largest ski area in the Massif Central.

In summer, Le Mont-Dore is the hiking capital of Auvergne. It is the starting point for numerous ascents to the Puy de Sancy and surrounding ridges (GR30).
