Overview of Avoriaz 1800
Avoriaz was born in the 1960s from a visionary project by Gerard Bremond and architect Jacques Labro. No motor vehicles circulate in its streets: everything is done on foot, on skis or by horse-drawn sleigh. The buildings with their steep roofs covered in tavaillons (wooden shingles) blend into the slate cliffs. The resort stretches across several districts: Amara (upmarket), Falaise (practical), Crozats, Festival and the centre. Each area is directly connected to the slopes. This unique urban model makes Avoriaz a reference in mountain design. Primarily made up of residences, Avoriaz is above all a resort for longer stays. It has an unusual leisure pool complex. With a distinctly contemporary edge, Avoriaz develops its unique and natural identity right through to its ski area, where you find a timber snowpark and mountain cabins. Avoriaz is spread across 7 districts. To the north, 4 large car parks accommodate holiday-makers’ vehicles. Immediately adjacent to the car parks are the Falaise and Amara districts. Higher up are Crozats and Festival. A 15-minute walk below, the Dromonts, Ruches and Haut-Forts districts are the historic heart of the resort, also accessible via the Prodains cable car from the Morzine slate quarry valley.

In summer, Avoriaz becomes a hub for riders, walkers and families. Downhill mountain bike tracks set off from the resort towards the Portes du Soleil bike park. Trails lead to the Super Morzine ridges, the Lindarets high pastures and mountain lakes. The Aquariaz — a tropical bubble with a current river and climbing walls — delights young and old alike. Youth activities, festivals, concerts and outdoor events (trail running, yoga, paragliding) punctuate the season. The resort retains its pedestrian spirit and direct access to open spaces.

For cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, Avoriaz stands out with a complete and preserved offering — entirely free of charge. The Avoriaz Nordic ski area, accessible from the Falaise district, is mainly deployed on the Proclou sector at 1,650 m altitude. Far from the bustle, the experience focuses on calm, contemplation and wellbeing — an invitation to breathe deeply in the silence of the snowy forests. The site offers a trail network totalling 23 km, across seven marked routes of different levels: 2 green, 2 blue, 2 red and 1 black. All trails are laid out for both classic and skating technique. The routes wind through fir forests and open onto plateaus with exceptional views of the surrounding summits. Access to the Nordic ski area is entirely free. A pedestrian pass is however required for circuits using ski lifts. The ski area includes 3 km of shared spaces with other users, including pedestrians. Access from Morzine is easy via the Super-Morzine gondola and the Zore chairlift.
