Overview of Valmorel
Valmorel’s architectural identity is its signature. Inspired by traditional Savoyard hamlets, it favours noble materials such as stone, timber and lauze-stone roofs. The buildings, of limited height, blend harmoniously into the landscape. The original resort is organised around the Rue du Bourg — entirely pedestrian, lined with shops, restaurants and animated squares, creating a genuine village heart. Several hamlets, such as Creve-Coeur, Le Mottet and La Foret, are spread across the mountainside, most offering ski-in ski-out access. This design, conceived for comfort and aesthetics, gives Valmorel a unique charm and atmosphere, a far cry from the monumental developments of some older resorts.

Linking the resorts of Valmorel and Saint-Francois-Longchamp via the famous Col de la Madeleine, Le Grand Domaine is a vast 165 km skiing area. This complex, which also includes the villages of Doucy and Celliers, extends from 1,250 to 2,550 metres altitude in grandiose landscapes with views over the Mont Blanc or Ecrins massifs. The domain is particularly renowned for its pleasure-skiing profile, ideal for families and progressing skiers. Among its 103 runs, a large majority are beginner to intermediate level (25 green and 49 blue), offering wide perfectly groomed slopes and smooth links assured by a modern 49 ski-lift fleet. The two main slopes offer complementary experiences: the Saint-Francois-Longchamp side, south-facing, guarantees maximum sunshine; the Valmorel side offers different atmospheres in the heart of the Tarentaise.
