The Plateau de Beille is an immense high-altitude plateau dedicated to Nordic activities. Access is via a 16 km road from the village of Les Cabannes, climbing to a vast open space at 1,800 metres. The absence of major constructions — apart from the welcome building — preserves the wild and natural character of the site. Once at the top, visitors discover an exceptional playground. Cross-country skiers, whether practising classic or skating technique, evolve on perfectly laid-out trails for all levels. In summer, the plateau returns to its pastoral vocation and becomes an immense high pasture where cattle and horses graze. It is a very popular destination for hiking, particularly as the famous GR10 trail crosses it. The vast expanses lend themselves perfectly to mountain biking and family picnics. The access road is also a feared and respected climb for cycle tourists, having hosted Tour de France stage finishes on several occasions.
