Orelle, nestled around 900 metres altitude in the Maurienne valley, is an atypical resort, functioning mainly as a “gateway village” to Val Thorens and the immense 3 Vallées area. Overview of Orelle

Orelle consists of ten authentic hamlets spread from the valley up to around 1,200 metres altitude, reflecting a rich rural past. The architecture is traditional, characterised by solid stone houses with lauze or slate roofs typical of the Maurienne valley. The ski resort activity concentrates around the departure point of the 3 Vallees Express gondola at Francoz. This modern installation — renewed in 2023 — is the true lifeline of Orelle in winter, connecting the village to Plan Bouchet (2,350 m) and then, via a second gondola, to the Cime Caron (3,200 m) at Val Thorens. Beyond this infrastructure and a few tourist accommodation options, Orelle retains the atmosphere of a preserved mountain village, far from the bustle of the large high-altitude resorts.

In winter, the primary and almost exclusive attraction of Orelle lies in its role as a gateway to Val Thorens and the Les 3 Vallees ski area.
