Le Corbier, a Maurienne valley resort perched at 1,550m altitude, stands out for its fully ski-in ski-out layout and its integration into the vast Sybelles ski area (310km of slopes). Created in the 1960s, it focused from the outset on safety and functionality, with a covered pedestrian shopping arcade running through the whole resort. Its architecture, topped by three large towers, is characteristic of the era. Very accessible from the motorway and Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne train station, Le Corbier is a family destination par excellence, labelled Famille Plus, offering centralised services, a very legible snow front and genuine ease of stay. Le Corbier also means affordable prices, with flats to rent directly from owners, but also higher-end accommodation such as the new MMV.

Overview of Le Corbier

Le Corbier is a typical third-generation ski resort (1960s), designed along the lines of La Plagne, for functionality and safety. It features a tight urban layout, with apartment blocks on a single level, connected by a covered pedestrian shopping gallery. This unique configuration allows you to move around without walking in the snow and to have all services at hand: shops, tourist office, restaurants, ski school, ski lifts. On the outside, the imposing buildings are softened by timber cladding and carefully tended surroundings. The heart of the resort is organised around the ski area base, accessible on skis from all residences. In summer, the space opens up to outdoor games, markets and family entertainment. While this architecture is now partly out of fashion, it has the advantage of limiting urban sprawl, putting everything within reach and offering fine views from the apartments.

In summer, Le Corbier offers a sunny, well-exposed and accessible setting, perfect for active and affordable family holidays. There is an outdoor panoramic pool, marked mountain bike routes, a pumptrack, children’s play areas and numerous free activities. Ski lifts operate for part of the summer, providing easy access to hillside trails towards La Toussuire, the Ouillon ridges and the Pierre du Turc. The area is also well suited to family hiking, with easy loops to the high pastures and viewpoints. Le Corbier is also close to the roads of several mythical cycling cols (Croix de Fer, Glandon, Madeleine and Galibier), making it a popular spot for amateur cyclists.

In winter, Le Corbier stands out as one of the most practical resorts in Savoie. Ski-in ski-out throughout, the resort allows you to reach the 310 km of Sybelles runs directly from any accommodation. The central, spacious and safe ski area base is particularly well suited to families with children. You will find ski schools, beginner zones, fun runs, a snow garden and easily accessible lifts. Complementary activities are numerous: dog sledding, snowshoe outings, paragliding, tobogganing, a wellness area and even an outdoor ice rink. With 310 km of linked runs, Les Sybelles is the fourth largest ski area in France and the largest in the Maurienne valley. It connects six resorts with varied identities, offering a complete skiing experience between 1,100 and 2,620 metres altitude, all organised around a central and panoramic convergence point. The great intelligence of the Sybelles lies in its organisation around the Pointe de l’Ouillon (2,400 m). This summit serves as a natural hub, smoothly and quickly linking the main sectors: La Toussuire, Le Corbier, Saint-Jean-d’Arves and Saint-Colomban. More than a simple link, it is an exceptional viewpoint offering a 360-degree view of the Alps, with the majestic Aiguilles d’Arves as the centrepiece. The six resorts offer three distinct atmospheres. Modern hubs — Le Corbier and La Toussuire: these two ski-in ski-out resorts form the dynamic heart of the ski area, with animated ski area bases, direct access to many ski lifts, wide and perfectly groomed sunny runs, and most of the fun areas (snowpark, boardercross, freestyle zones). Village hearts — Saint-Sorlin-d’Arves and Saint-Jean-d’Arves: these two resorts preserve a more traditional village atmosphere. Saint-Sorlin-d’Arves, the highest, gives access to the ski area summit (2,620 m) and offers more technical options for experienced skiers towards the Etendard glacier. Saint-Jean-d’Arves offers a varied and fun local sector. Authentic gateways — Les Bottieres and Saint-Colomban-des-Villards: these discreet and preserved village resorts offer a peaceful setting, local runs ideal for beginners, virtually no queues and often more accessible prices — the perfect compromise for accessing an XXL ski area while staying in calm surroundings.
