La Toussuire has developed on a wide, open plateau between 1,700 and 1,750 metres altitude, overlooking the Arvan and Arc valleys. The urban style is typical of 1960s-70s resorts, with apartment blocks lining the slopes, but also with chalets and chalet-style residences. There is a mix of renovated residences, timber chalets and recent hotels. The resort is fairly compact: everything is within walking distance, from the shops to the slopes, play areas and services. Its panoramic openness onto the peaks — notably the Aiguilles d’Arves — creates an airy setting, ideal for those who feel hemmed in by mountain summits. The immediate surroundings are very accessible: gentle ridges, high pastures and viewpoints, with no technical difficulty.
