There are no ski lifts here, but a genuine mountain atmosphere, conducive to disconnecting. In winter, it’s a well-regarded spot for Nordic skiing and snowshoeing, while in summer, La Ruchère attracts hikers seeking calm nature, at the foot of the Grande Sure cliffs. The site lives at its own pace, away from mass tourist flows, and remains very popular with locals and those in the know. Far from the crowds and noise of alpine resorts, it is a family, convivial and human-scale site where people come as much to practise as to recharge. A Nordic ski lodge with welcome, hire, hot drinks and facilities completes the offering. The site is regularly groomed, well maintained and occasionally animated.

In summer, La Ruchere returns to a calm hamlet at the foot of the Chartreuse cliffs. People come to walk towards the Arpison high pasture, reach the Grande Sure or the Petit Som, or stroll through cool, shaded forests. A few marked routes depart from the Nordic ski site. The La Ruchere Nordic ski area has 35 km of cross-country trails, in both classic and skating technique, graded from green to black. The routes cross the Arpison meadows, the Riondettes clearing and the large conifer forests. Maintenance is regular and snow quality remains good thanks to the altitude (up to 1,450 m) and the forest terrain. The ski area also offers 4 marked snowshoe routes (5 to 13 km), with viewpoints over the Chartreuse summits and highly immersive forest passages. A toboggan area is laid out for children. A warm welcome lodge provides equipment hire and refreshments. The site is labelled Nordic Alpes du Sud. La Ruchere is Nordic skiing in its simplest and purest form, just a short distance from Grenoble and Chambery.
