La Plagne is an iconic example of the great French ski resorts: high-altitude sites created from scratch in the 1960s and 70s, ski-in ski-out, with sometimes imposing buildings. But La Plagne is also 11 different sites, each with its own atmosphere and style. Modern high-altitude resorts (Plagne Centre, Plagne Soleil, Belle Plagne, Aime 2000) feature functional residences and buildings typical of the 1970s — most of which have been recently renovated. Lower down, Plagne Montalbert and Montchavin-les-Coches retain a Savoyard village architecture of timber chalets and traditional roofs. The diversity of the sites allows everyone to find a setting and pace that suits them: urban, natural, family or sporty. All are connected by runs, ski lifts or shuttles. La Plagne is therefore a large ski area, one destination — but several different experiences.

In summer, La Plagne offers an immense base of outdoor activities across several sites. From the high-altitude villages, access to marked trails, mountain bike tracks (including the mythical Colorado Bike Park descent), trail loops, via ferrata and climbing on the Rocher de Saint-Jacques. You can also zip-line from Belle Plagne. Lower down, in Aime, there is a purpose-built lake ideal for swimming, children’s play areas and picnicking, alongside a rafting base for thrills on the water. The offering is massive: paragliding, rafting, cycling, canyoning, yoga on the high pastures, nature walks and cultural events. Families are well looked after, with children’s clubs, play areas and varied workshops. While the architecture integrates poorly into the summer landscape, La Plagne makes up for it with its activities offering and considerably more affordable prices.
