Created in 1976, La Joue du Loup is the “cosy” resort of the Dévoluy. Unlike its neighbour SuperDévoluy, it has favoured development based on charm and wooded aesthetics. Here, there are no tower blocks, but a multitude of individual chalets and small wood-and-stone residences that give it a warm mountain village atmosphere. Linked to the 100km ski area, it offers a more intimate, upmarket experience, while remaining very accessible to families.

Overview of La Joue du Loup
La Joue du Loup is explored on foot through its wooded paths linking the different chalet districts. The pedestrian and convivial resort centre groups all essential shops around a lively central square. The architecture is coherent, respecting mountain codes with pitched roofs and noble materials — though more in a 20th-century residential estate style than a historic village. The various hamlets are fairly harmoniously inserted into the larch forest, offering holidaymakers a preserved natural setting. It is a ski-in ski-out resort where the preference is for returning to calm after a day on the ski area.

The Devoluy ski area extends across 100 km of runs, with a 1,000 m vertical drop, between 1,500 and 2,500 metres altitude. It is equipped with 22 ski lifts, including 5 chairlifts and 17 drag lifts, ensuring good flow even during busy periods. The predominantly north-facing aspect guarantees quality snow throughout the season. The two resorts, though distinct, are linked ski-in ski-out, offering skiers a varied experience. The Devoluy ski area has a majority of blue runs, complemented by runs for beginners and more experienced skiers. Located between the Northern and Southern Alps, the Devoluy benefits from a transitional climate — combining the snowfall of the Northern Alps with the sunshine of the Southern Alps. At altitude, snow is rarely lacking. Its north-facing aspect allows the ski area to remain open quite late into spring.

With 30 km of trails through forests, clearings and open spaces, the Devoluy Nordic ski area allows both sporty and contemplative skiing. Spread across three sectors — SuperDevoluy, La Joue du Loup and the Col du Festre — it follows the natural curve of the massif, offering open perspectives over the surrounding summits. Nordic skiers move between 1,470 and 1,850 metres altitude in varied scenery. The ski area has 5 cross-country trails (2 green, 2 blue, 1 red), groomed for both classic and skating technique. Routes include initiation loops such as the Plateau du Pin (2 km) and longer routes such as Le Gicons (11 km). In addition, 20 km of multi-activity routes are open to snowshoers, pedestrians, fat bikers and Nordic ski tourers. Two marked white trail routes (7 km and 13 km) also depart from SuperDevoluy. The ski area is accessed from three welcome points: the SuperDevoluy Sports Centre (1,850 m) — with ticket office, equipment hire and ski school; the Maison du Col du Festre (1,470 m) — southern entry point with hire, lodge and information; and the La Joue du Loup Nordic Welcome — with information and a lodge.
