Overview of Hauteluce
Hauteluce is the main support commune for Les Saisies — a medium-sized mountain resort situated a little higher up on a sunny plateau. The original village has preserved all its charm: chalets, a Baroque church, a handful of shops (just enough) and a few fine gastronomy addresses. In the beautiful Beaufortain landscapes, between forests and high pastures, the Mont Blanc massif rises at the end of the valley, beyond the Col du Joly. For us, Hauteluce is one of the most beautiful villages in the Alps. Lower down, the villages of Beaufort, Areches and Villard-sur-Doron complete this mountain and farming landscape, dedicated to milk production — the essential ingredient for making Beaufort, the large, firm and fruity Savoyard cheese. All these villages are linked in summer by free shuttles — very practical.

When to visit
Hauteluce in summer
Hauteluce is an ideal base for exploring the Beaufortain on foot or by bike. Walks lead to the Aiguille Croche or the Mont Clocher, or you can admire the Lacs de Roselend and de la Girotte, or stroll through the high pastures. The village ecomuseum and the Beaufort cooperative tell the local story. At the end of the day, an organic tea room or a gourmet afternoon tea facing the summits: here, the mountains are savoured as slowly as a mountain cheese. For the more active, head up to Les Saisies to enjoy the resort’s facilities: rail sledge, spa and aquatic centre, all shops.

In winter, Hauteluce opens ski-in ski-out onto 192 km of runs via the Espace Diamant, or via shuttle to the 120 km Les Contamines ski area. Skiing is done facing Mont Blanc, between forests and open slopes. The neighbouring Les Saisies resort offers 120 km of Olympic Nordic skiing. The village — calm and bright — is well suited to families or those who want to ski in a natural setting without crowds.

The Espace Diamant is a vast 192 km ski area with the distinctive feature of linking six charming Savoyard village resorts: Les Saisies, Hauteluce, Notre-Dame-de-Bellecombe, Flumet, Crest-Voland/Cohennoz and Praz-sur-Arly. Its major asset and signature is the ever-present and spectacular panorama over the Mont Blanc massif. Ranging from 1,000 to 2,070 metres altitude, the ski area is particularly appreciated by families and beginner to intermediate skiers. The run distribution confirms this, with a large majority of green and blue runs (nearly 60%) winding pleasantly between fir forests, clearings and high pastures. The atmosphere is relaxed and pressure-free, with generally smooth links between resorts. The ski area is also well-equipped with fun areas for all ages, including numerous boardercross runs, snowparks and the Opoualand children’s zone at Crest-Voland. Rather than depending on a single large resort, Espace Diamant draws its strength from its network of villages. Each resort preserves its identity while giving access to the entire ski area.
