Located at the end of the Queyras valley, Ceillac defines itself first and foremost as a village resort, far from the standards of large industrial ski areas. The alpine ski area ranges from 1,640 to 2,450 metres altitude, with a vertical drop of 800 metres on a mainly north-east/north-west facing sector. This aspect, combined with a dense larch forest environment, allows good preservation of the snow cover even on the sunny days typical of the Southern Alps. With 20 kilometres of runs (16 runs in total), the ski area is modest in size but stands out for its sporting character. Unlike many small flat family resorts, Ceillac offers steep and rolling terrain aimed primarily at strong skiers. The majority of the ski area consists of red runs with sustained gradients and natural terrain movements. The black run — often left ungroomed to allow moguls to form — completes this technical offering. While a long panoramic blue run allows descent from the summit avoiding the difficulties, the heart of the ski area is physical. For sporty skiers, the interest lies less in the distance covered than in the intensity of the descents and the near-total absence of lift queues. For beginners, the offering concentrates on the ski area base at the foot of the village. A dedicated area with a carpet lift and easy drag lifts allows safe learning. However, the transition to the upper ski area requires some technical ability, the level jump between the lower and upper runs being quite marked. Weather-wise, Ceillac benefits from a local climatic feature: easterly weather patterns. When disturbances from Italy cross the border, they stall on these reliefs and dump significant quantities of snow — often cold and light. This generally guarantees natural snowfall above average for resorts at this altitude, supplemented by snowmaking on the lower section (around 6 hectares) to ensure ski-in ski-out return. The specific aerology of the valley also makes it a recognised spot for speed riding (a combination of skiing and paragliding) and paragliding, with accessible launch areas. Finally, the ski area is integrated into the overall Queyras offering: the alpine pass gives access to neighbouring resorts (Molines-Saint-Veran, Abries and Arvieux) — a useful option for varying run profiles over a week, as the Ceillac ski area can be covered entirely in one or two days by a fast skier.

On the cross-country side, the domain is linked to Molines-en-Queyras. In addition to regularly groomed and maintained runs, several high-altitude mountain trails take you to high altitude in a unique wild-mountain setting. On the Saint-Veran side, one route takes you to the Blanche mountain lodge at 2,500 metres altitude. On the Molines side, one route leads to the Col d’Agnel at 2,744 m altitude. On the Ceillac side, one trail even leads to the Izoard summit. Of course, these runs are unsecured and should only be tackled when conditions are favourable.
