Cauterets is a two-faced resort, linked by the Lys gondola departing from the town centre. In the heart of the valley, the village of Cauterets (930 m) seduces with its 19th-century architecture, former palace hotels, casino and thermal baths — a lively centre rich in history. In 12 minutes by gondola, you reach another world: the Cirque du Lys (1,850-2,450 m). This vast natural cirque, facing north-east, is a true snow trap guaranteeing one of the finest snowpacks in the Pyrenees throughout the season. The ski area here is open, sunny and offers runs for all levels. A few kilometres from the village, the Pont d’Espagne (1,500 m) is the gateway to the Pyrenees National Park.
