Perched at 1,600 metres altitude, Auris-en-Oisans is one of the most low-key gateways to the vast Alpe d’Huez ski area. In winter, Auris is linked ski-in ski-out to the 250km of slopes of the Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine Ski. Overview of Auris en Oisans

Auris consists of a modern resort centre built in the 1970s, surrounded by traditional hamlets spread across the south-facing mountainside. There are 11 hamlets, including Les Certs, Les Cours and Le Freney-d’Oisans, each retaining an authentic mountain architecture of stone houses, slate roofs and narrow steep lanes. The resort centre, compact and pedestrian, faces due south, benefiting from generous sunshine and a spectacular view of the Meije and the Ecrins. The main architecture is functional, without excess, but well integrated into the terrain. There is a small modern church, a convivial ski area base and a few essential shops open year-round. Below, the road winds down to the valley, with quick access to Bourg d’Oisans, Les Deux Alpes and La Grave. This balcony configuration gives Auris a unique character, suspended between modernity and tradition.

In summer, Auris is a peaceful base for active mountain enthusiasts. Walking trails depart from the resort or the hamlets, offering varied routes through forests, hillside paths and ridges, with spectacular views of the Ecrins massif and the Romanche valley. The GR 54 passes close by, and the high pastures above Auris lead to the Emparis plateau or the Signal de l’Homme sector. Road cyclists appreciate the immediate proximity of mythical passes: the Alpe d’Huez of course, but also the Col de Sarenne, du Lautaret, du Galibier, du Glandon and de la Croix-de-Fer. The resort organises nature activities and offers a family programme: outdoor games, treasure hunts and yoga. From the resort, you reach the 250 km of runs directly via the Auris Express or Fontfroide chairlifts, including the famous Sarenne piste. In the local Auris sector, around ten runs (green, blue and red) wind through the forest — ideal for beginner or intermediate skiers.
