The Abondance ski area, known as the Essert domain, is a human-scale area ideal for families and beginner to intermediate skiers. Accessible by gondola from the village centre, it extends from 930 to 1,730 metres altitude and offers around ten runs of different levels (green, blue, red and one black), served by several drag lifts. Its setting, between forests and high pastures, offers fine viewpoints. Though more modest than its neighbours, it provides gentle learning conditions and pleasurable skiing. For access to the 600 km of Portes du Soleil runs, free shuttles link to neighbouring resorts such as La Chapelle-d’Abondance and Chatel.
