Just 15 minutes from the centre of Grenoble, the Sappey-en-Chartreuse Nordic ski area offers an accessible and preserved sliding space in the heart of the massif. The site, renowned for its unbeatable view over the Emeindras, offers 42 kilometres of cross-country ski trails for all levels. It is also a starting point for the famous Chartreuse Traverse and has a wide choice of snowshoe routes. The ski area’s 42 km of groomed trails for both classic and skating technique cater for all Nordic skiers. Beginners can learn on easy loops such as Les Sagnes (2.5 km) or Planibert (2.5 km). More experienced skiers appreciate longer and more technical routes through forests and meadows, such as the Saint Eynard (9 km) or Pale de Fer (9 km) trails, offering panoramic views. For long-distance Nordic skiers, the Sappey is the starting point for the Chartreuse Traverse — a 25 km route linking to the Saint Hugues ski area via the Col de l’Emeindras. Snowshoe enthusiasts have several marked routes such as the Balcon de Roche Rousse (5.5 km) or l’Emeindras du dessus (8.3 km). The main welcome point is the La Jacobine cross-country ski lodge, where passes and equipment hire are available.
