The Monts du Pilat Nordic Area, in the Pilat Regional Nature Park just 20 minutes from Saint-Étienne, brings together 80km of cross-country trails spread across three separate sectors, between 950 and 1,300m altitude: Le Bessat–Les Grands Bois (35km, via the Croix de Chaubouret), Burdignes (20km) and Saint-Régis-du-Coin (15km). The Croix de Chaubouret snow stadium, near Le Bessat (1,200m), also has a button lift for beginner alpine skiing. The Crêt de l’Œillon is also a popular snowkiting spot.
