How we use your personal data

Comments

When you leave a comment on this website, the data entered in the comment form — along with your IP address and browser user agent — is collected to help us detect spam. An anonymised string generated from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you use it. The Gravatar privacy policy is available at: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture may be displayed publicly alongside your comment.

Cookies

If you leave a comment, you may opt to save your name, email address and website in cookies for your convenience, so you do not need to re-enter your details for future comments. These cookies expire after one year.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content such as videos, images or interactive elements. Embedded content from other websites behaves in exactly the same way as if you had visited those websites directly. This site embeds content from Facebook, YouTube, Dailymotion, France Télévisions, Infogram, SlideShare and Google Drive.

These third-party websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional tracking tools, and monitor your interaction with their content if you have an account and are logged in on their platform.

Advertising

Alti-Mag displays advertising via Google Ad Manager and Google AdSense. These services serve both direct and Google-sold advertisements, and may place cookies on your browser in order to deliver targeted ads based on your browsing behaviour.

Analytics and audience measurement

Alti-Mag uses Matomo to better understand its audience: visit counts, session duration, pages viewed, geographic and technical data, and reader profiles. All data collected is anonymised and provided in aggregate statistical form. Matomo does not place cookies on your browser.

Newsletter

Alti-Mag collects the following data for the purpose of sending periodic newsletters: first name, last name, email address and subscription date. Newsletters are sent only to users who have explicitly opted in. You may unsubscribe at any time via the unsubscribe link in any newsletter or by contacting us directly. Newsletters are managed using Brevo.

Data retention

If you leave a comment, the comment and its associated metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows us to automatically recognise and approve subsequent comments from the same user rather than holding them in a moderation queue.

Email addresses used for newsletters are retained without a defined expiry. If a subscriber requests to unsubscribe, their address is moved to an unsubscribe list, unless they request full deletion.

Your rights over your data

If you have subscribed to our newsletter or left comments on this site, you may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, including data you have provided to us. You may also request the deletion of your personal data. This does not apply to data retained for administrative, legal or security purposes. These rights are provided under the UK GDPR and the EU General Data Protection Regulation.
